Pictures on Walls have announced the dates for their annual Christmas event. Wittingly entitled The Fiesta Resistance two things are for sure; a) that it will be a killer art extravaganza with some familiar and un-familiar names contributing;
b) true to form details of the event will be vague until the last possible moment.
For anyone wanting to go the first stumbling block is where the hell is it going to be held? The only thing to do at the minute is to sit tight, keep looking for updates and start looking for a spare credit card.

Part selling exhibition, part art installation – there’s probably something for everyone at The Evil Xmas Fayre, presented by Arts Co & Pure Evil over 5th and 6th December at The East Room and Sosho (London EC2) between 12 and 5pm.

Pitched as ‘a twisted take on a traditional European Christmas fair’, the Evil Xmas Fayre is a selling exhibition of original art and prints. But you’ll also find Xmas hell at Sosho, where the walls will be wheat-pasted by an army of Santa’s dark helpers (a mystery line up of London’s best street artists), along with the Xmas Squat installation by Luc Price aka Cyclops. If you head next door to The East Room, there’s also the chance to make your own snowglobe in the magical Snowglobe Lounge whilst also doing the full ‘eat, drink and be merry’ thing.

Artist selling at the event will include Aryz, Beatrice Brown, Deadbeat Donny, Does, Ged Wells, Hornhead, Joanna Imrie, Ortiz, Panik, Probs, Pure Evil, Rabodiga and Soozy Lipsey. The Art Car Boot Fair will also host a section of the fayre with all manner of art works, art ware and services from regular art car booters, while other goodies will include 3D jigsaw cut Christmas trees sprayed by a street artists and stockings packed with fayre art. Just a £1 donation (in support of StreetSmart) gets you in.

Black Rat Press: The pop-up antiquarian bookshop is also rumoured to be haunted and is built inside our railway arch gallery.
The bookshop will be filled with an unusual selection of books from major and independent book publishers. A large selection of second hand books and artist made fanzines, counter cultural manuals and films will be available. Artwork by Swoon, Grayson Perry, Giles Walker, Matt Small and Lucas Price will also be on display. Reports have already been received of eerie incidents and strange happenings, with books magically flying off shelves, and lights switching themselves on and off. Halloween may have been and gone but the real ghosts and ghouls work all year round. In addition to this we will be releasing a new edition by Brain Douglas (elbow-toe).

It’s coming up to Xmas and I want to get myself a present and I am torn between Ashley Wood’s WWRP series of affordable Bramblebots or Bertie series. (They are retailing at a mere $45USD!
They are both so good that actually, I want every single one of these 7inch bad boys. The detailing/weathering is incredible and each robot is so articulated that there’s a million poses you can put them in.

The ANTARES design might currently be considered avant-garde for a construction vehicle, however within the next 10-15 years, proposals such as these may be thought conventional.

The cab has a large panoramic glass area – to aid operator visibility.
(air conditioning is increasingly commonplace for these machines, as they typically work in dusty quarry environments. Solar gain could be managed effectively through the use of photovoltaic glazing)

Beneath the glass, a heavyweight ROPS structure ensures operator protection. The effect of this soft, inviting cab solution is a counterpoint to the hard industrial lines of the heavyweight ANTARES chassis and bodywork – and hopefully provides an appealing operator environment.

Text from Mike, taken from IVT Internation :
When I was asked to contribute design work for IVT – specifically wheeled loading shovel ideas for this article – I was absolutely delighted, as I’ve always had a real affinity for bigger wheeled loaders. I can’t quite put my finger on exactly why – something about the overall stance and character has an inherent ‘rightness’ and single-mindedness in its functionality that has always appealed to me. One of my first sandpit toys was a small die-cast JCB410, and I’ve still got it in a drawer somewhere…

With Antares, aficionados will instantly spot the Porsche 917 engine fan design. Growing up as the son of a certified petrolhead subjected me to a daily diet of the very best in motorsport, but there was always something about the iconic 917 (especially in Gulf colours) that held my fascination. It was the first car I tried to draw – probably aged about four or five and working from grainy photographs – always from a high rear three-quarter view so I could include the fan.

Antares Wheeled Loading Shovel Vehicle by Mike Turner

Porsche fans on Antares? Well, there’s logic behind the passion, as the power source is envisaged as being electric-biogas reactor feeding a central fuel cell. Water and heat are by-products of this specific energy-generation process and have to be managed. A bank of fans seems the most obvious way of ducting the bay, and sends out a clear visual signal that this is no ordinary wheeled loading shovel.

Antares Wheeled Loading Shovel Vehicle by Mike Turner

General bodyform is about keeping things as simple and uncluttered as possible – it’s a concept rather than a fully detailed production machine, after all. Ditching conventional hydraulics for EAPs means the character of the loader end can be much cleaner, and I want to really emphasise this with as few fussy details as possible. I’ve got various ideas for composite structures that I want to showcase, so going away from traditional plate arms seems like the right thing to do.

Antares Wheeled Loading Shovel Vehicle by Mike Turner

Obviously there’s a trade-off in terms of loader arm thickness to maintain torsional rigidity as a composite structure, but I figure the EAP approach theoretically allows for the removal of a big chunky Z-bar linkage, so overall sightline view of the bucket is improved from an operator perspective.

The cab is deliberately kept as glassy and like a goldfish bowl as possible. Visibility legislation is getting ever tighter, and air-con is now the absolute norm for machines like this working in dusty hostile environments, so I feel that a large glass area is justified. Solar gain could be managed through the use of photovoltaic glass or traditional sunshield blinds if necessary. Beneath the surface, there’s a very sturdy ROPS/FOPS structure, but the overall feel is light and airy – a counterpoint to the incredibly heavyweight looks of the rest of Antares, and hopefully an appealing environment for the operator.

The innovative and handy Pangolin Backpack, getting inspired by the nature, has been designed like the Pangolin, a bristly anteater creature with razor sharp scales and claws. The material that has been used to make this backpack is simple and easy to get old truck tires. Just like the creature, the backpack has multi-layered construction that step by step folds and unfolds during operation. This construction allows more storage comparing its outer appearance which has made it a good gadget especially for mountain trackers.

The Honda Helix concept with advanced adaptive polymers can change its shape, color and even material properties when required. The three distinct conformations of Helix are A, B and Z. The car is short and wide when it is in “A” status for lighter and intertwining road system cities where the vehicle can run fast. “B” is low and long Helix for sprawling cities where long distances are allowed for high speed voyage. For congested cities, the tall and thin “Z” model comes in where occupants seat vertically on two levels. The use of flexible and renovating multi-functioning parts, this car can react to particular environments and traffic conditions by changing the orientation for optimal user functionality and environmental operation.

The Urban Concept Vehicle has been designed to purify water, and then deliver them to the targeted people, aiming the future scenario of the third world. This concept vehicle will be a good substitute of massive relocation due to global warming caused requirement of new water infrastructure. Moreover, the quick development of biofuel industry is taking over the agricultural space, resulting more inaccessible condition for food supply, particularly to economically challenged families. This urban concept vehicle can filter water up to the drinkable level from almost any natural water source like lakes and rivers by implementing carbon nanotubes technology. Also, it provides the poor families a possibility to produce their own food by using hydroponic modules.

On December 1, 2009, in 03 - Works Of Art, by admin

Black Friday is the Friday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, which is the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season with discounts on some “hard-to-find” products. All this shopping is numerous hours of waiting in lines, sometimes the whole night in order to get in the store the first at its opening.
